Being Pregnant with Lexy from The Proper Pinwheel

September 10, 2013

maternity photo | being pregnantBecause every woman’s pregnancy is unique, our Being Pregnant series is a way to share a variety of maternity experiences on the blog. Today we’re chatting with Lexy Ward, the creative gal behind the party blog, The Proper Pinwheel. Lexy and I met in person at Alt Summit in January, and she’s one of the funniest and most outgoing bloggers I know. Her tell-it-like-it-is personality and sense of humor even comes through in her writing.

Lexy and I chatted during her second trimester — before a handful of fellow bloggers threw her a virtual baby shower and before she had maternity photos taken by You Look Lovely Photography. In fact, I’ve been sitting on this interview until Lexy received these images back from the photographer. Aren’t they so gorgeous and ethereal?

Read on to learn what Lexy thinks about being pregnant…

maternity photo | being pregnantQ. When is your due date?

A. We are due October 9th, but the baby might come a little early!

Q. Boy or girl?

A. It’s a girl! We were totally thrown for a loop because everyone thought it was a boy (including our doctor!), but it’s totally a girl!

Q. Do you have a name picked out?

A. We don’t have a name yet. I come from an Italian family and would love to have an Italian name, but our last name is Ward! It’s a little tricky to find the perfect fit.

Q. Is this your first child?

A. This is our first child. We’ve wanted children for a long time and were so excited to finally be pregnant! For me, pregnancy has been less-than-glamorous. I am almost to my third trimester and am still puking regularly. I have some good days and enjoy being pregnant when those come around. 🙂 When I hear women say how much they love being pregnant because it’s so easy for them, I want to punch them. Just joking. I am just really jealous. 😉

maternity photo | being pregnantQ. What’s the best thing about being pregnant?

A. The best thing? I love seeing and feeling her kick. It makes the whole thing seem real, and I find myself staring and smiling for 20 minutes at a time each time she kicks.

Q. What’s the worst thing about being pregnant?

A. The worst thing? For me, it’s totally the puking. Worst thing ever. I’m getting used to it now though. I’ll be out to dinner and will be like, “Oh, excuse me, I have to go puke. Be right back!” I’ll come back and be fine after that!

Q. Any cravings?

A. Oh gosh, I’m eating anything and everything. I can eat an entire box of popsicles in one sitting, and I have trained baby girl to enjoy McDonalds. 🙂

maternity photo | being pregnantQ. How do you dress the bump?

A. I’m not going to lie to you: I work from home, so I am mostly in workout clothes or sweats that don’t fit. My stomach hangs out, and it’s super attractive. When I actually have to leave the house, I wear mostly maxi skirts and dresses.

Because I’ve been so sick, I haven’t gained that much weight. I can still wear most of my pants, but they just don’t close around the waist. The belly band has been a lifesaver in that department!

Q. What are the essentials that have gotten you through the pregnancy so far?

A. Go on walks! Walk everywhere if you can! It gets a little tricky to exercise as the pregnancy progresses, so walking has become my only form of exercise. I also have this giant water bottle from Target that I fill up every day. I make sure I drink a full one every day so I know that I’m hydrated enough!

***

Lexy, enjoy the remainder of your pregnancy and best wishes for an easy delivery. I can’t believe that Baby Girl Ward — or “BG-dub,” as Lexy has nicknamed her — should be making her grand arrival within the next few weeks!

P.S. — If you’d like to share your pregnancy experience, please send me a note with “Being Pregnant” as the subject.

Day 12 | No photos from today (well none worth sharing) because I sat in front of my laptop from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. working on deadline. My busy work day also meant that my kids didnt get very much of my attention. My husband kept them occupied for some of the day but I dont think they got any schoolwork done. Oh well we all deserve a lazy day every once in a while. I know I do! | So whats this photo? Just some of the amazing birthday presents I received from my friends this weekend! Asa had a full-on temper tantrum because he didnt want to color his drawing of a rainbow and nearly lost his cool while practicing Typing Club. I wish I could do more educational activities with them like taking alphabet walks and tallying up different items around the house but Im totally overwhelmed with a huge deadline this week. Not sad about anything specific. Just ... sad. Cabin fever? Exhaustion? We decided to get out of the house to look at the cherry blossoms in Bethesda. The Kenwood neighborhood was quiet so we parked and walked down a side street keeping our distance from the few other people out and about.
