Levi has a lot to say. His vocabulary is expansive for a two year old (or so I’m told), and he puts together long sentences filled with complex thoughts. The only problem is that sometimes we’re the only ones who can understand him! His articulation is not the best, partly because he talks so quickly, partly because he’s just two and a half, and partly because of chronic ear infections.
However, I’m hoping his articulation will improve since having ear tube surgery on Wednesday. Apparently, Levi’s hearing was slightly impaired every time he had an ear infection (which was often), and, as you can imagine, it’s hard to learn how to speak clearly when what you hear is muffled.
Meanwhile, I’ve been jotting down some of the funnier things Levi has said these past couple of months and thought I’d share some of our sillier conversations. We could all use a laugh on a Friday!
On nighttime:
Me: “What happens when the sun goes to bed?”
Levi: “Hi, moon!”
On favorite foods (while watching Daddy cut Brussels sprouts):
Me: “What’s your favorite vegetable?”
Levi: “Coffee. (What?!) Mommy likes cake and daddy likes cake and Levi likes cake.”
Me: “What’s your favorite type of cake?”
Levi: “Brussels sprouts.”
More on favorite foods:
Me: “What’s your favorite fruit?”
Levi: “Smoovie.” (aka “smoothie”)
Me: “What’s your favorite vegetable?”
Levi: “Crocodile”
On names:
Aunt Rachel: “Who makes you happy?”
Levi: “Bob-o”
Aunt Rachel: “Who’s Bob-o?”
Levi: “Ubie” (his name for my dad)
On expressing love:
Me: “Why do you want hug me? Because you love me?”
Levi: “Yes”
Me: “Ok, say it.”
Levi: “I love me.”
On getting what he wants:
Me: “You can’t bring that in the house.”
Levi: “Think again.”
On negotiating:
Me: “How about just 1 [of whatever we were talking about]?”
Levi: “How about 2?”
On knowing his name:
Levi: “L-e-v-i”
Me: “What does that spell?”
Levi: “Baby Max!”
Plus, some funny one-liners from my two year old:
“That cockadoo thing.” (When describing a small turkey stuffed animal.)
“I can’t hear you on FaceTime, Mimi and Ubie!” and “You’re frozen!”
“I need something else that’s not yucky. In the cabinick.”
“Had a bubble in my tushy!” (When he farted.)
“Excellent, mommy. Excellent.”
“That make me so happy.” (When asking for something he wants.)
“Make it big and big and big!”
“That be so easy.” (When asking to be carried upstairs.)
“That’s silly!”
“Don’t eat me. Just real food!” (When his daddy was pretend nibbling his neck.)
“You’re eating napkins.” (When I was having Trader Joe’s gyoza for lunch.)
“You love me.”
And my favorite Levi saying of the moment…
“Wha’ happened?”
And, yes, we did re-watch Christopher Guest’s “A Mighty Wind” this weekend when we remembered that the catchphrase was featured in the movie!
