A Girl Named PJ

Introducing A Girl Named PJ!

July 1, 2014

A Girl Named PJ blogTrying to get to Bunny & Dolly? Don’t worry, you’re in the right place.

Bunny & Dolly is now A Girl Named PJ!

I started Bunny & Dolly back in 2010 when I first learned I was pregnant with Levi. After writing mostly about pregnancy and motherhood for nearly three years, I realized last summer that I was bored with the content I had been producing.

What I had was a mommy blog. What I wanted was a lifestyle blog that also appealed to moms.

At the end of the year, I teamed up with Allie Lehman and Adam Lehman of The Wonder Jam to begin the rebranding process. First, we had to change the name. The new blog will also function as my online writing portfolio, so it needed a name that was catchy but less cutesy than Bunny & Dolly.

I landed on A Girl Named PJ because, well, I’m a girl named PJ. It was the obvious choice.

Then Allie and Adam helped me hone my vision for the blog. There will still be honest talk about motherhood, but a large portion of the content will focus on things my friends and I chat about when we’re not sharing baby-related stories — everything from beauty tips to TV to work.

Because even though we’re moms, we have interests outside of our kids. And let’s be honest, constantly talking about children gets boring.

The final step of the rebranding process was the complete redesign. I think I may have been a challenging client (hello, indecision!), but Allie did a fantastic job of helping me figure out how I wanted the blog to look and feel.

Here are a few things I love about the redesign:

A Girl Named PJ blogThe pink, gold, and grey color scheme and geometric design elements feel very “me” – quiet and sophisticated but still fun. The blog header was hand drawn by Allie, and I’m kind of obsessed with her handwriting.

A Girl Named PJ blogThe sidebar displays featured posts and series. For now you’ll find quick links to desktop wallpapers, day in the life and shopping posts, and monthly baby photos. New series will be coming soon!

A Girl Named PJ blogI know that leaving blog comments can be inconvenient, especially if you’re on a mobile device or don’t have very much time. Social sharing is so much quicker and easier, so we’ve incorporated buttons at the bottom of each post to PIN to Pinterest, LIKE on Facebook, TWEET on Twitter, and PLUS on Google+. (But still feel free to leave comments when you can!)

If you scroll down to the footer, you’ll find the newsletter opt-in (go sign up!), plus ways to connect with me on social media. You’ll also see my most recent Instagram photos. Lately, I’ve been addicted to Instagram. Are you on there?

A Girl Named PJ blogYou can now search by category: Style, Home, Family, Life, and Culture. The grid format makes it easy to find and revisit old posts.

A Girl Named PJ blogMy writing portfolio now has its own page — and it looks so professional! In the sidebar, you’ll find different ways to subscribe to A Girl Named PJ (email or Feedly, for example) and a link to my entire blog archive.

In a way, this blog feels like my third baby. I first conceived of the idea last summer, and it’s taken nearly ten months to bring A Girl Named PJ to you. Perhaps it would’ve launched sooner if my actual pregnancy hadn’t slowed me down!

I hope you enjoy exploring the new site, and be sure to come back tomorrow for a really fun giveaway!

Love getting holiday cards from friends but now Im feeling like a slacker because we havent had professional family photos taken in a couple of years. If I even get around to sending cards this year (doubtful) theyll likely have an iPhone selfie for the imageHappy to have at least one kid willing to stand in front of a random mural and smile for the cameraDiscovered a new-to-me fruit at the @westsidemarket in Cleveland: #Rambutan. They look like the offspring of a strawberry and those spiny brown balls that fall from trees but I have no idea what they taste like. Have you heard of them? Eaten them? Im so curious! Are you still in a food coma from last night or have you moved on to leftovers already?
