I was sick in bed with a high fever for most of Levi’s 11-week birthday yesterday. Every muscle ached, including –oddly–the side of my right breast, and all my bones felt bruised. We were lucky that our wonderful nanny was here during the workday to take care of Levi, but I wished that I also had somebody taking care of me. This momma wanted her momma!
When I googled whether I could still breastfeed with a fever, I came upon site and site about mastitis. Being the paranoid person that I am, I immediately feared I was actually suffering from a breast infection and not the flu, despite not having any of the symptoms besides a bit of tenderness. Oh, and a fever. Perhaps I should’ve called my doctor instead of self-diagnosing, but I decided to see if I could sleep it off first.
My fever decreased towards the late afternoon, only to start climbing back up after the nanny left. Of course, last night JB had to work until almost 9pm, so I was home alone with an overtired and insatiable baby who thought whining would be more productive than napping. Have you ever tried standing and rocking a 12lb baby to sleep while you had a temperature? My body was aching…
Thankfully, I feel a million times better today. Unfortunately, our nanny called in sick with a fever, which makes me think that what I had was just a bug and not mastitis. But I’m curious…Have you ever had a breast infection?

I had a small breast infection a few weeks ago that we managed to control in a few days since I reacted very fast when the first symptoms happened! It was super painful 🙁
Take care xox

I had clogged ducts a few times when my babes were little. It was terribly painful. I had a good lactation consultant through my OBGYN that had a lot of helpful tips. Definitely if there is a fever I would get checked out! Hope you are feeling better!
