A Girl Named PJ

cankles and mom ass

April 6, 2011

chubby baby feet

I always vowed not to be one of those pregnant women who constantly complains about how fat she looks.

Before I was knocked up, it annoyed me when those with child moaned about their expanding girth. “You’re not fat! You’re pregnant!” I cried in response.

Maybe it was because I was jealous that they were pregnant and I wasn’t. They had something I wanted, so I didn’t want to hear them grumble about it. Plus, as a non-pregnant person, I couldn’t relate.

Oh, karma’s a bitch.

I won’t tell you how much I weigh because that’s none of your business. Truthfully, I don’t even know how many pounds I’ve packed on because I only step on the scale once a month at my doctor’s office. Plus, I’ve found that pregnant women are just as competitive about how much weight they’ve gained as skinny women are about how much they’ve lost, and I refuse to partake in that game.

I will tell you that my body shape is changing, and I’m not comfortable with it. Now I understand why pregnant women complain.

They don’t feel like themselves.

Around 10:30pm recently, I looked down at my feet and let out a wail.

“I have cankles!”

JB tried to assure me that my ankles were as slender as they’ve always been, but I didn’t believe him. When I stare at myself in the full length mirror, JB reminds me that I only look pregnant from the front because I’m also concerned that I’ve contracted a case of “mom ass.”

I think when you’re pregnant, your eyes play tricks on you. At least mine do.

What a great blog. You’ve always been so open and honest, in the most beautiful, and often humerous of ways. What you said about 30, and the difference a year makes. hopefully 32 will be my good year. thanks for giving me hope of something to look forward to.

I must say PJ this has been so much fun catching up with your pregnancy and all I have to say is you look absolutely stunning! You have done such a great job of keeping your body in great shape… even if you think that shape is round! Just remeber that your baby is going to be so beautiful and so wonderful…. and your body will snap back in no time!!!!

Thanks! I’ve been working hard trying to find a balance between keeping myself in shape and not being crazy obsessed about it. I definitely indulge in sweets and laziness more often than I find myself on the elliptical machine, though!

Love getting holiday cards from friends but now Im feeling like a slacker because we havent had professional family photos taken in a couple of years. If I even get around to sending cards this year (doubtful) theyll likely have an iPhone selfie for the imageHappy to have at least one kid willing to stand in front of a random mural and smile for the cameraDiscovered a new-to-me fruit at the @westsidemarket in Cleveland: #Rambutan. They look like the offspring of a strawberry and those spiny brown balls that fall from trees but I have no idea what they taste like. Have you heard of them? Eaten them? Im so curious! Are you still in a food coma from last night or have you moved on to leftovers already?
