A Girl Named PJ

a rookie mom mistake

November 13, 2011

baby not wearing pants

Baby guy was not happy that he had to be seen at Costco in this silly getup – a onesie, socks and sneakers – after he literally pooped his pants in the store. His seasonably inappropriate outfit was the result of a classic rookie mom mistake: I packed an extra top for Levi in my diaper bag but not spare bottoms. Naturally, he didn’t even need the new onesie because his poop came out the bottom of the diaper and straight down his pants, narrowly missing his striped shirt.

To make matters worse, Levi’s newbie parents left his fuzzy blanket in the car because we figured he’d be warm enough inside the warehouse store without it. He always gets so hotting sitting in his car seat. As a result of this gaffe, JB and I received several curious and judgmental looks from fellow shoppers concerned about Levi’s lack of pants.

It dawns on me now that one of us should have run back out to the car to grab his blanket. So why didn’t we think of that yesterday? We were too caught up in the moment, I guess. Throw a shrieking, stinky baby into the mix and your common sense apparently goes down the drain.

But can we talk for just a second about his sweet little sneakers? Tired of constantly readjusting his socks, I put Levi in his first pair of shoes with the hope that they’d stay keep his socks from falling off. Although baby-sized laces are a pain to tie (according to JB), his miniature kicks did the job! No cold toes for baby…just cold legs. Bad, mommy and daddy!

The moral of this story: Always pack at least one extra outfit, even for short outings. You never know when a diaper blowout may occur.

Why didnt you just run back to the clothes section and buy grab him a new outfit… you could have put him in it and paid for it on the way out!

And when I use the baby carrier I also get an extra top for me…Alice pooped on me a few times like that. What’s the point of having a clean baby if my top is still full of poop!!!

Day 12 | No photos from today (well none worth sharing) because I sat in front of my laptop from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. working on deadline. My busy work day also meant that my kids didnt get very much of my attention. My husband kept them occupied for some of the day but I dont think they got any schoolwork done. Oh well we all deserve a lazy day every once in a while. I know I do! | So whats this photo? Just some of the amazing birthday presents I received from my friends this weekend! Asa had a full-on temper tantrum because he didnt want to color his drawing of a rainbow and nearly lost his cool while practicing Typing Club. Not sad about anything specific. Just ... sad. Cabin fever? Exhaustion? We decided to get out of the house to look at the cherry blossoms in Bethesda. The Kenwood neighborhood was quiet so we parked and walked down a side street keeping our distance from the few other people out and about.
