I learned something interesting from a lactation consultant recently. Did you know that eating Whoppers can help increase your milk supply?
Don’t hop in the car and drive to Burger King just yet. It’s actually the malt in candy Whoppers that supposedly improves lactation, which would make this layer cake not only delicious, but beneficial for nursing moms. Other lactogenic foods? Barley and oatmeal.
Have you changed your diet or added supplements to increase your breastmilk supply?
PS: Did you know that these exist? I want to try them!

I have never heard of Malt but that does sound a lot yummier than fenugrek which I have eaten to increase milk supply.
PJ
Laura, did the fenugreek work for you?

I am totally going out to buy Whoppers! Thank you for the excuse to indulge. Yes, I’m trying to increase production. Just started in on the oatmeal a few days. Haven’t noticed any difference yet. Would like to know if the fenugrek works. Have also been drinking lots of Mother’s Milk tea — no benefit I’ve seen, but I do like the flavor of the tea.

I’ve always imagined that Mother’s Milk tea would taste awful! Maybe one day I’ll give it a sip. Happy to give you an excuse to eat candy–hope it works!

Yum! Good tip. W’s pede prescribed me to drink one beer a day to increase supply (malt & barley). I ate oatmeal, Malt-o-meal, turkey, whole grains, leafy greens… Supplemented with fenugreek, blessed thistle and Mother’s Milk… it did increase the supply, but it wasn’t enough. I was prescribed Reglan to increase my supply medically, but I could barely stand to be awake to nurse and became depressed really quickly. Our lactation consultant and I arrived to the conclusion it just wasn’t going to work. I wish I would have at least indulged in some Whoppers!
PJ
I hereby grant you permission to go town on some Whoppers now! (Especially while you’re in the States. Otherwise I think you’ll have to eat Maltesers.)
