Tomorrow is my birthday! It totally snuck up on me because, as you can imagine, I’ve been more than a bit preoccupied with Asa these past three weeks. I have no idea what, if anything, is planned for the day. I certainly haven’t planned anything, and I haven’t mentioned to JB what I’d like to do.
So I started doing a bit of brainstorming yesterday to determine what activities, when combined, would result in the perfect birthday. Here’s what I came up with:
* A breakfast of Eggs Benedict and French press coffee (if only Lot 2 in Benson served brunch on Saturdays!)
* A shopping spree at Anthropologie using my birthday discount
* A loooong massage — with or without hot stones and aromatherapy
* A doughnut and coffee break (I wish Omaha had a gourmet doughnut shop like Voodoo Doughnut or Donut Friend)
* An afternoon viewing of The Grand Budapest Hotel at Film Streams
* A dinner party with all my friends
* A nightcap at The Boiler Room
Of course, for this “perfect birthday” to be possible, I would have to be able to eschew my parenting responsibilities for the day. It’s nearly impossible to spend the day shopping, eating, and watching movies when you’re constantly feeding a newborn and wrangling a toddler!
I’d also have to have a ton of energy to enjoy a whole day’s worth of birthday activities. Unfortunately, energy is in short supply these days — hence the two coffee breaks in my hypothetical plans!
Have you ever thought about what your perfect birthday might look like? I’d love to know what activities you would plan. Leave a comment!
PS – My perfect birthday last year included meeting a childhood idol!

This year I (fellow 3/22/80-er) will be celebrating the fact that my family recently moved back to the Omaha area, where my husband and I grew up. So I can drop off my 2-year-old with her grandmother and meet up with my best friend who had a birthday last week. That used to be possible, but it would take a lot of planning and an entire weekend of travel to make it work. Probably not the perfect birthday, but it’s pretty close.

I hope you had a very happy birthday and were able to celebrate with your best friend!

That sounds like a perfect birthday wish list! I hope you get to sneak in at least one of these things. You deserve it! (Though I wish I could take you to the movie!)
PJ
Well, I enjoyed brunch and a bit of shopping the day after my birthday! I also wish you were here in Omaha to go to Film Streams with me. I miss our movie dates!

That day sounds perfect! I always feel shallow that mine always includes shopping. My birthday is in May and it’s always right when it gets warm outside so I always want to get those cute summer clothes! Someday I’d love to travel to celebrate my birthday!
PJ
I’d love to be able to afford a tradition of traveling on my birthday. How amazing would that be? I feel slightly less guilty about shopping on my birthday because it’s the only time I have a discount at Anthropologie!

Happy belated birthday, PJ! What did you bring home from Anthro? I always forget to use my discount and it’s such a bummer!
PJ
Thank you! I used the discount to buy a couple of tops — though it really is such a minimal discount! Better than nothing, though 😉 I guess it’s a good thing I’m not back to my pre-pregnancy weight or I would’ve wanted to buy a lot more!

P.S. Thanks for the link!
