Weekend reading: link roundup

A Girl Named PJ weekend link roundup

This weekend’s link roundup includes hairstyle advice, alternatives to peonies, a boozy summer recipe, decorating tips for small spaces, and more!

A simple trick to determine if you’d look good with short hair. (In case you’re curious, I wouldn’t.)

Oh, no! Did I miss peony season?

I’m taking notes for the townhouse: How to make a small room look bigger.

This spiked watermelon punch looks delicious.

We only get 18 summers with our children — sniff! Here’s how to make them worthwhile.

First, I need a camper. Then I need these enamel mugs.

So many cute dresses.

I should probably spend more time organizing my to-do list and less time reading about how other people organize theirs.

Apparently, there’s not a one-size-fits-all method to cleaning the floors in your home.

What a beautiful birthday party. (For my 29th, we went bowling. Not quite as classy.)

Is everybody falling out of love with J.Crew?

I have no idea how to play backgammon, but I’d learn just for this set.

In case you missed it…

I joined Snapchat (@agirlnamedpj) and have no idea how to use it! (Let’s follow each other, m’kay?)

I dreamed about decorating our backyard patio.

I unpacked the kitchen and made a list of everything we need.

I devoured a new pastry with a name I can’t pronounce.

And congratulations to longtime A Girl Named PJ friend, Sara, on the birth of her beautiful baby boy!

Great links – as always! For me, J. Crew (which I’ve been shopping since THE 80″S AHEM) has just gotten too “fancy”. Or maybe my lifestyle has changed. I still buy pieces but my wardrobe is WAY more Madewell these days for sure.

I remember ordering from the catalog back in the mid-90s. Roll-neck sweaters! Flannel shirts! Chunky oxford shoes! J.Crew has definitely gotten away from its pretty roots; not everybody wants to dress exactly like Jenna Lyons.

Day 12 | No photos from today (well none worth sharing) because I sat in front of my laptop from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. working on deadline. My busy work day also meant that my kids didnt get very much of my attention. My husband kept them occupied for some of the day but I dont think they got any schoolwork done. Oh well we all deserve a lazy day every once in a while. I know I do! | So whats this photo? Just some of the amazing birthday presents I received from my friends this weekend! Asa had a full-on temper tantrum because he didnt want to color his drawing of a rainbow and nearly lost his cool while practicing Typing Club. I wish I could do more educational activities with them like taking alphabet walks and tallying up different items around the house but Im totally overwhelmed with a huge deadline this week. Not sad about anything specific. Just ... sad. Cabin fever? Exhaustion? We decided to get out of the house to look at the cherry blossoms in Bethesda. The Kenwood neighborhood was quiet so we parked and walked down a side street keeping our distance from the few other people out and about.
