Our family is growing! My lil’ sis, who younger by exactly three years and one day, is having a baby! She’s expecting a boy of her own in early March, and I predict that Levi and his cousin will grow up to become best buddies.
Levi’s auntie rocks. His uncle does, too. My sister and brother-in-law are Levi’s godparents, and they have loved on my baby guy since the day he was born. I have absolutely no doubt they are going to tremendous parents to their own baby dude.
Side note: I’m still having a bit of trouble reconciling that my baby sister is pregnant. When did she become a grownup? And while I’m on the subject, when did I become one? Most days I feel as clueless and insecure as I did in high school. The idea that I am now the adult responsible for raising another little person continues to blow my mind. Will it ever feel normal?
Back to my sister. Although I’m able to share with her my pregnancy and early motherhood experiences (as well as some of my maternity clothing), I’m unequipped to offer her guidance about being a new mom in a big city. Her living situation in New York City is so very different than mine here in Omaha! Truthfully, I can’t imagine what it’s like to have a baby in Manhattan. (I heard that NYC hospitals make new moms share recovery rooms on maternity floors!)
But some of you live in New York City or other large cities. What advice can I pass along to my sister from one city mom to another? Is there anything you recommend she do or buy, either now while she’s pregnant or after she’s had baby dude?
Send me your recommendations via email or in the comments section below, and I’ll include them all in an upcoming post!

don’t go cheap on a good stroller (i love my bugaboo bee – fits on bus, light to carry down steps for the tube, adjustable seating for napping on walks, and folds up small) plus a nice lambskin bag to put on the stroller for keeping warm, anything that can pack up small for storage later (puj tub), rent a pump so you don’t have to keep it later, hooks for the stroller to carry bags, only keep or buy toys that you like looking at (I am assuming their apartment isn’t huge), and look into grocery delivery services.

How exciting!!! Wow, I can’t imagine my younger suster being “old enough” to have kids either!!! That’s so awesome. You’re going to have even more fun together now!

a good baby carrier is my n.1 city purchase…but we are all different!

Congrats! Definitely a bundle me for the stroller, which should have sturdy wheels. We have the uppababy vista and loved it for its versatility in the first year, but now kinda wish we had just gotten a City mini as the uppababy is bulky. Also, we swear by diapers.com- sometimes the order comes within 24 hrs!

Thanks for the shout out 🙂 When you were pregnant, the entire time I was in denial that you could have a baby. I still feel like we are 7 and 10 years old. But when Levi arrived and watching you raise him, it’s so clear you were meant to be a Mom, his Mom. And let me tell you, being an Aunt is by far one of the coolest jobs I’ve ever had. I can’t wait for Baby Dude and Levi to meet and become lifelong friends. Now you just need to come back East so we can see each other in person more often! And thanks for asking for city living recommendations. All of it help!

N was born in NY (then she moved to Omaha for her BF Levi…) And you can request a private recovery room- but its first come first served (once you deliver). Unless of course you are Beyonce and then you get the whole floor…
