A peek inside the boys’ colorful shared bedroom

March 29, 2016

Brothers playing toys in their boys' shared bedroom

Earlier this month I shared some photos of Levi and Asa playing in their shared bedroom over on Honest to Nod. The post was part of The Land of Nod’s #CelebrateTuesday campaign, a reminder to frazzled parents everywhere to celebrate the every day.

One of my favorite moments of the day is bedtime. Of course, I love when the boys are finally tucked in their beds, but I also enjoy the time we spend together in their shared bedroom getting ready for lights out because that’s when Levi and Asa are at their silliest. While I’m usually desperate for them to be asleep already, I can’t help but smile and laugh at their goofy antics.

You can read more about our bedtime ritual on The Land of Nod’s blog, but I thought I’d share some additional photos of their shared bedroom here.

The vibrant Nod rug is the latest addition to their room and totally transforms the space. Before, their room was lacking in color. A typical rental with off-white walls and beige carpet. Plus, the boys started with pretty neutral furniture — a white bed and crib, a grey rocker, a navy poof, a white bookcase — and walls that’ve been bare since we moved in last June.

We still need to hang some art, but the pixelated rug draws your attention away from the blank walls and adds playful personality to the space. I also love that the random black squares coordinate with Levi’s black and white grid bedding.

Then we added some much-needed storage. The navy nightstand holds a basket of Legos, the grey book caddy (obviously) holds books, and the color pop bins hold small toy cars and large stuffed animals.

The boys share a dresser on the other side of the room, but it’s usually covered in clothes to be folded and random odds and ends that Levi collects throughout the day. One day, when I finally put away all the laundry and finish start decorating that part of their bedroom, I’ll photograph it for the blog.

Tell me, do your children share a bedroom? How does that work for them — and for you?

PS: Take a trip down memory lane and check out Levi’s nursery and Asa’s nursery from our Omaha home.

A big thank you to The Land of Nod for asking me how I #CelebrateTuesday and for providing some new furniture and decor pieces for the boys’ shared bedroom. As always, all opinions are my own. Thanks for continuing to support the brands that help support this blog.

    Great room!
Oh, I really like the book caddy but it’s a bit out of budget for me. I’ll have to remember it if someone asks for a gift idea for the kids.

It’s a great size for the boys to pick out their books — and then put them away. I’m sure you could find a less expensive option out there!
