Whenever I notice a change in Levi’s behavior or schedule, I wonder…is this normal? For example, now that he’s eating solids twice a day, is he supposed to be going longer and longer in between meals? I don’t want to starve him, especially since Operation Chubbs is still in effect.
Please reassure me… What is/was your 7-month-old’s feeding schedule?
Speaking of food, thought you’d enjoy this short video of Levi enjoying his peas and his fingers. Of all the veggies he’s tasted so far, peas are not Levi’s favorite. He prefers mushy orange anything — sweet potatoes, carrots, winter squash. Basically, whatever will stain his clothing, bibs and sheets a neon color when it makes its reappearance.

Up with mushy orange stuff! My 7mo is also a big fan. As for feeding schedule, we still seem to be all over the place with this one. On days when I’m working then my little guy is with his nanny and bottle fed breastmilk – he typically starts with a bottle (4-5oz – this is about what he takes each time) around 7:15, solids (about 1-2oz) around 9, bottle at 11, bottle around 3, solids at 4, bottle at 6:30 (though lately he hasn’t been as interested in this one) and then I breastfeed him before sleep around 8. Totally changes day-to-day, though. When I’m with him we try for breastfeeding every 3-4 hours and we do a couple of solids feedings usually about an hour after breastfeeding. This is definitely still a work in progress… 🙂 From talking with other moms seems like there is a TON of variability with how babies eat!

How much detail do you want?
I try to roughly follow Baby-Led Weaning while also maintaining the breastfeeding principles outlined in The Nursing Mother’s Companion. At 7 months, my daughter was breastfeeding every time she woke up and went down to sleep, plus a full dinner and a small lunch (and 1-2 nursing sessions in the night). From 6 – 9 months, we have gradually increased her food to the point where she is now eating three full meals a day (for example, she ate an entire sweet potato at dinner and then looked around as if to say “What else ya got?”). Next up: slowly starting to have her eat solids before nursing (and cutting out nursing sessions one at a time).
