When we first started feeding Levi solid food, he would bat at the spoon as it came toward his mouth, resulting in baby oatmeal splattered all over his face, arms and high chair tray. Now he wildly reaches for it as I’m feeding him mushy fruits, vegetable and meat combinations, trying to stick the spoon in his mouth unassisted. Every couple of bites I let him play with it…even though that means I’m stuck cleaning up a bigger mess than if I just held the spoon the entire time.
I’m okay with wiping down him and his high chair after each meal, but what really annoys me is when his clothing gets dirty. Look at all of the food stuck to his neck! Somehow that mush migrates onto the collar of his shirts and onesies, prompting frequent post-feeding outfit changes. I thought bibs are supposed to prevent messy clothing! Or am I using the wrong type of bib?
Tell me: How messy are your little ones when they eat?

i have no idea what to tell you since that same problem seems insurmountable to us.
i just leave a bunch of onesies on hand and change out after most meals. at dinner we go only with the diaper since she’s most often going into the bath after that. she seems to be a more “successful” eater when we let her dive in so i’ve had to stop worrying about the mess she makes.
good luck!

we have the same bib problem! the neck holes are made for larger babes than ours i think, because we mostly strip owen down now before he eats to avoid this same problem!

A good friend of mine swears by these, which are more like shirts than bibs and go over your baby’s clothes: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70179754/ I haven’t tried them, but she says it’s the only way she can prevent major outfit staining!
