Mother’s Day gift guide

April 30, 2014

mother's day gift guide

Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday, May 11th. Have you purchased something for your mom already? Has your husband asked you what you might like to receive?

If you’re still in need of ideas, have no fear… I’m here to help! I always enjoy putting together gift guides because they’re usually a combination of what’s on my wish list and what I’d buy for my friends and family — and this year’s Mother’s Day gift guide is no exception!

1. Patent leather Birkenstocks for the mom who gave up wearing heels a long time ago.

2. The best ever flat iron for the mom who wishes she had straight hair.

3. An eye-catching card case to hold store credit and loyalty cards for the mom who loves to shop.

4. The limited edition FEED + Oh Joy! diaper bag that’s playful on the outside and practical on the inside for the mom who just had a baby.

5. This set of three nylon pouches for the mom who plans to spend every summer weekend at the beach.

6. A silk-screened scarf with an unexpected pattern for the mom who is always chilly in an air conditioned room. (Bonus! BRIKA is offering all Bunny & Dolly readers free shipping with the code BUNNYDOLLY. Offer expires in one week.)

7. The Hands Free Mama book for the mom who is (admittedly) addicted to her iPhone.

8. A flash chill tea maker for the mom who’s always thirsty but hates the taste of plain water.

9. A delicate dual birthstone ring for the mom with two adorable yet exhausting kids.

I’d love know what’s on your wish list! Leave a comment or send me a tweet with the Mother’s Day gift you’re hoping to unwrap this year.

PS – More lovely gifts for the ladies.

Guess who’ll be speaking at Alt SLC?

April 28, 2014

ALT SLC Summer

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be speaking at Alt Summit’s first-ever Salt Lake City summer conference this June! The first round of SLC summer speakers were announced on the Alt blog today, and I was thrilled to see some familiar names and faces alongside mine, including Melissa from Lulu the Baker. (Please go check out her redesigned blog — it’s so lemony fresh!)

As soon as I have more details about my presentation I’ll be sure to share them here. In the meantime, I’d love to know if you’ll be attending Alt SLC Summer so we can connect online before the conference!

PS – Have you ever had to write a short bio about yourself? It’s the hardest thing ever!

Weekend reading: link roundup

April 25, 2014

top knots and braids art by elizabeth mayville

It was a challenging week, that’s for sure, but we made it to Friday. As Levi would say, hooray! Here are some articles worth checking out if you find yourself with a few quiet minutes this weekend:

Buns and braid and stripes, oh my! The top left portrait resembles what my own top knot looks like. I wonder if we bloggers and our stereotypical “blogging uniform” were the inspiration for these lovely art prints by Elizabeth Mayville, via Honestly WTF.

Not sure whether you should text or email? Follow these simple communication guidelines, via 99u.

Grab a comb and discover the most flattering part for your face shape. I’m just not sure how a deep side part is supposed to work with curly hair, via Byrdie.

What does the fox say? Find the answer in this children’s book, via Time.

It might be worth planning a trip to London simply to pick up (and then use) the coolest guidebooks available only at the new J.Crew, via Conde Nast Traveler.

The hardest part of this pastry dessert might be peeling the apples (and even I can handle that!), via Babble.

PS – Your words of encouragement yesterday lifted my spirits, so thank you for taking the time to leave such thoughtful comments!

Let’s keep in touch this weekend via Twitter and Instagram!

Trying to juggle motherhood

April 24, 2014

juggling motherhood: jenni kayne and kids

After promising JB a week ago that I’d make matzoh ball soup for dinner, I finally made good on my word last night. While he ran to Costco with Levi, I rolled matzoh balls and chopped chicken while wearing Asa in the Baby K’tan. For 15 minutes or so, I was a champion at multi-tasking.

Levi and Asa were sleeping by the time the soup was finished cooking, and JB was out in the garage installing a car seat protector. As I ladled out the first portion of soup into the low-rimmed soup bowl I was holding in my left hand, I clumsily tipped the bowl, spilling boiling broth onto my palm. Yelling in pain, I tossed the bowl onto the stove and ran over to the sink to run cold water on my hand.

My hand under the faucet, I began to sob. JB, who had come in from the garage when he heard me yell, asked, “I know your hand hurts, but why are you really crying?”

The boy knows me too well.… READ MORE!

Shopping bag: Tea Collection

April 22, 2014

tea collection clothing

Tea Collection’s Friends & Family Sale started today, so I spent some time browsing summer clothing for Levi and Asa. And I couldn’t resist sneaking a peek at the new arrivals for girls — Tea Collection’s sundresses are the sweetest! The sale ends tomorrow (4/23), so be sure to take advantage of it while you can. Here are a few of my favorites.

Happy to have at least one kid willing to stand in front of a random mural and smile for the cameraDiscovered a new-to-me fruit at the @westsidemarket in Cleveland: #Rambutan. They look like the offspring of a strawberry and those spiny brown balls that fall from trees but I have no idea what they taste like. Have you heard of them? Eaten them? Im so curious! Are you still in a food coma from last night or have you moved on to leftovers already?Grateful for these silly turkeys (most of the time)
