Before Levi was born, a friend made me laugh with the exotic names she bestowed upon the plush toys hanging from her infant son’s car seat. They were so creative, and I couldn’t wait for my own kiddo to have stuffed animals to name. How fun!
JB and I have tried our best to come up with clever monikers for Levi’s toys, but I’ll be the first to admit that we sort of suck at naming stuffed animals and toys. Here’s what we have so far:
Sophie. Officially, she’s Sophie the Giraffe. No point in renaming her, as she is most definitely a Sophie.
Jingle Bird. With a bell in her belly, this bird jingles when she’s rattled. Original, huh?
Robertito and La La. We call him “Tito” for short. Obviously, they have the best names, and it’s because their naming happened organically, as it should be. Boy monkey’s moniker comes from the pet name our Puerto Rican waiter gave to my dad when we celebrated his birthday in Miami. Girl monkey gets her name from Blabla, the company that makes the knitted animal rattles.
Do your kids have stuffed animals with funny names? Did you have any cleverly named ones growing up? Inspire me with your creativity!

Are you talking about Maria Yellowbeak?
We recently dug out Gladys Porterhouse (the horse that daddy thought was a cow), Wellington Fuzzybottom (a bear), and Feltwell Derby (a bear won at one of those Kentucky Derby race games at a carnival in, you guessed it, Feltwell).
Sadly our naming skills have deteriorated over time. The last one we named is Dot the Otter… and now there’s a hedgehog, duck and fish that are all nameless. We should get to work on those.

Yes! She was so sassy. Although I think Gladys Porterhouse and Wellington Fuzzybottom might be tied for my favorite names.

I LOVE THIS POST. Sorry for the yelling. We are sooooo into naming stuffed animals ’round here. We have a whole collection of slightly bizarre zoo animals (thanks to Henry Doorly, among others!) with awesome names: Condoleeza Condor, Charlie Horse (the seahorse — C. Horse!), Crabby Appleton (a crab, natch), Calamario the squid, and Lambeau the sheep. (Yes, we are Packers fans.)
My favorite toy (lovey?) growing up was my bright red felt bunny named…Miss Bunny. My husband had a gorilla named Alex, for some reason…

Crabby Appleton… heehee. Oh, and I had a dolly named Dolly. Go figure.

Oh, I may have to post Lu’s two over on our blog. Thus far, we have Mathilde Mitzy Von Muffling (a close relation to Bitsy Von Muffling from Sex and the City), and Gerry, a stuffed frog from IKEA.
PJ
Do you always call Mathilde Mitzy Von Muffling by her full name? That’s quite a mouthful — but I love it!
