Following doctor’s orders, we’re adding butter* to Levi’s food in order to increase his fat and calorie intake. Our baby guy isn’t quite chubby enough for his height, but we’re gonna fix that.
Last night Levi tried sweet potatoes for the first time, eating them with a side of oatmeal cereal. Both were mixed with melted butter. Mmm, mmm good.
What food did you introduce into your baby’s diet first?
*Paula Deen approves this diet.
courtney @ larking.
Are you serious?! Oh, to be put on a butter diet.

We could also mix mayo or ranch dressing into his food, but I personally can’t stand mayo. Besides, butter makes everything taste better!

Looks like he had a great time!

He did!

Oh, not that old school diet! Sorry, not my baby…not my business!
Ok, first food for Alice was pumpkin (but it might be difficult to find in winter) and sweet potato. And because she is a strange little creature, she LOVES broccoli. We also started with 3 different types of cereal and they were all successful.
It is “funny” because Paula Deen has diabetes (again, not of your business Claudia)!!!

I never thought of adding butter as an “old school” diet, but hey, whatever works, right?! Also, I had a line about Paula Deen having diabetes in my first draft but took it out because I wasn’t sure if it was too snarky! But it was definitely one of the first things that came to my mind?

Sweet potatoes were a HUGE. And I mean huge hit. Also: peas, applesauce and carrots 🙂

I just so happened to grab three varieties of orange-colored vegetables at the store, so he’ll probably try carrots next (after two days of fruit). Then…squash?

We skipped cereals and went straight to veggies. First was butternut squash, then acorn squash. Now we’re also doing carrots, spinach, peas. We do sweet potatoes just at night in an effort to “carb load” for bedtime … so far it’s not causing the comatose sleep I was hoping for. 🙂 I’ve got a skinny baby, too! 75% for height and about 6% for weight.

Sadly, I haven’t found anything yet that helps Levi sleep longer than an 8-9 hour stretch, which truthfully, isn’t so bad anymore. I think I’ve gotten used to waking up around 3:30am! And yay for skinny babies!

We started the process about a month ago with cereals (rice and then oatmeal) and then added zucchini and carrots… then the little guy got a bit constipated and we added prunes and pears. Of all of that the only foods where he seems to actually eat them (as opposed to play with them/smear them around on his face/clothing) have been the oatmeal and pears. That said, everything with him changes so quickly that I’m sure today will be different!

We started with oatmeal cereal, skipping the rice all together. So far Levi seems to enjoy sweet potatoes, peaches and peach Yo Baby yogurt. Actually, he REALLY likes peaches!
