As promised, here’s the story behind yesterday’s video.
Saturday morning, Levi and I played in the basement while JB slept in. While the baby amused himself in his exersaucer, I began to wonder what milestones JB might miss the next time he is deployed. Will he get to see Levi crawl for the first time? What about watching the baby pull himself up or feed himself Cheerios? What if Levi actually starts to walk while his daddy is away?
To distract myself from these thoughts, I moved Levi to the rug and sat him in front of some toys. Plopping myself down next to him, I showed him how to put his Topsy Tumblers into their Surprise Funhouse but all he wanted to do was put them in his mouth. Levi must have dropped one out of reach because he wound up on his stomach trying to grab it, and that’s when my baby saw the remote on the floor. The next thing I knew, he was pulling one knee up to his hip and then the other, sort of slithering on his belly toward the shiny silver object.
“Holy crap! Are you crawling? Are you crawling for the first time?”
It didn’t look like crawling, but Levi was definitely moving himself in a forward motion. A sloppy, floppy fish-out-of-water motion. It almost looked like baby guy was doing the worm.
In a stroke of excellent timing, JB came downstairs just in time to see Levi “crawl” again. He wiggled towards a Kleenex box. He inched back over to the remote. I quickly pulled out my iPhone to record video of him going for it to email to our families. Then I grabbed my DSLR to capture this milestone for the photo album.
He’s not up on all fours yet, but Levi has mastered scooting on his stomach. My baby guy can army crawl!
Thanks for all your sweet comments on yesterday’s blog post! That video was well worth the time it took to make.
