Hanukkah begins Sunday evening, and we’ll be lighting the menorah and eating latkes with some cousins who live nearby. Since it’s not a Hanukkah party if you don’t play dreidel, I’ll be bringing along my new hand-painted dreidels from The Land of Nod — and, hopefully, a little bit of extra luck.
After all, dreidel is a game of chance. Or a gambling game, depending on how you look at it.
If you’re curious about how to play dreidel, head over to Honest to Nod, where I’m breaking down the rules of the traditional Hanukkah game.

Have you signed up to PJ library for your boys?
Really great programme – they send free Jewish books about festivals and all are age appropriate. We’ve been reading a ‘Hanukah is coming’ book to our 20 month old. I think he’s mainly excited about the prospect of menorah cookies and applesauce.

Yes! We’ve been receiving books from the PJ Library since Levi was a baby. It’s such a great program!
