While I take some time to bond with my little man, please enjoy guest posts written by moms and moms-to-be from some of my favorite blogs. Today, I’m happy to introduce Lynn from Olio!
Welcome to the club, PJ & JB!
Having a kid automatically initiates your lifetime membership in the Parent Club. Welcome, friends! Please note: I have discovered that there are many more people out there with kids than there are with my interests in local food, baroque pop, or Tina Fey.
On one hand, being a parent means you’ll have something in common with millions more people. On the other, the only thing you shared before was your need for carbon to exist. It is up to you how you use the Immediate Expert benefit to make connections with other members of the Club, which is highly encouraged. Other members are more likely to understand your need to be home by 6:30 PM or how to help you fold up your stroller in a busy restaurant so that you don’t knock over a nice old lady’s Afternoon Tea tray.
While there are many benefits to being a member of the Parent Club, it is important to note that the book on How to Raise a Well-Adjusted Kid has yet to be published. All members feel obliged to contribute.
My hope for every new mom (our dear PJ included) is for her to feel confident in the instincts she has that make her a good mother. There are books, and friends, and strangers, and the (#$%@!) Internet out there telling us a million things that make us second-guess ourselves. But what it comes down to is that if your baby is happy – and one day your baby will smile and laugh and reach out for you! – you’re doing a great job.
