2013 Year in Review

December 31, 2013

What a year it’s been! 2013 was filled with personal and professional highs, from becoming an aunt and getting pregnant to attending Alt Summit and forging partnerships with favorite brands. Of course, there were some lows, too, including intense pregnancy hormones and perpetual self-doubt.

Through it all, though, you’ve stuck with me. In fact, readership more than doubled in 2013! Wowza! To commemorate such a memorable year, here’s a look at the year in review (plus a slew of never-before-seen photos), if you’d like to see…… READ MORE!

The dos and don’ts of regifting presents

December 27, 2013

People have surprisingly strong opinions on regifting. Some think it’s rude to pass along a gift you don’t want to somebody else. Others, myself included, see no harm in regifting a present you don’t like to somebody who would appreciate it.

Of course, not every unwanted present can be regifted. Sometimes you simply have to find a spot in your house for that birthday present from your in-laws or holiday gift from an aunt.

Head over to The Neighborhood for the dos and don’ts of regifting, plus my tips on how to regift presents without hurting anybody’s feelings.

Merry Christmas!

December 25, 2013

I don’t remember ever being terribly jealous as a kid that my family didn’t celebrate Christmas. After all, we had our own Jewish traditions, plus we always did something special on December 25th to celebrate my parents’ anniversary. For many years, we went into New York City to eat and see a Broadway show (and sometimes make a detour to Rockefeller Center to check out the holiday decorations).

Still, I’ve always loved Christmas trees. Whether draped in white or multi-colored lights and adorned with matching or clashing ornaments, there’s always been something magical about twinkling Christmas trees.

If you’re unwrapping presents found underneath your Christmas tree, I wish you a very merry Christmas! And if you’re enjoying Chinese food and a movie, I hope you have a fun and relaxing day.

Finally, happy 37th anniversary to my mom and dad, the best Mimi and Ubie a grandkid could have!

Holiday stress relief

December 24, 2013

We love our families but, let’s be honest, they can also be stressful. Especially during the holidays. Luckily, laughter is a fantastic way to blow off some steam. So if you’re spending a couple of days with your parents or in-laws and need some holiday stress relief, here are some funny videos I’ve shared on the blog that you might have missed:

All-clucking version of “Ho Hey”
The dinner scene from “The Campaign”
The Island of Misnamed Toys
Love your — ahem — vagina

Plus, some home videos of Levi that’ll make you laugh, too:

Levi plays with a new toy
Levi laughing at his own reflection
Levi vs. rubber ducky
Levi says, “Happy birthday, Rosh Hashanah!”
Levi’s got moves like Jagger

PS - Did you catch SNL this past Saturday? There were some hysterical Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake moments, but the funniest skit of the night had to be the (Do It On My) Twin Bed video above.

The biggest moments of 2013 in Play-Doh

December 24, 2013

Now this is clever: Play-Doh just released a series of clay creations on Instagram celebrating the year’s most sensational news stories, pop culture moments, and culinary fads. (How brilliant is the Play-Doh cronut above?) Best of/worst of lists are unavoidable this time of year, but I haven’t seen any as creative as Play-Doh’s take on the biggest moments of 2013.

PS - A homemade playdough recipe.
