There are also adorable photos of her daughter reading La Chenille Qui Fait Des Trous, which is the French version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Too cute! And is that not the largest board book you’ve ever see?!

We love to read Sandra Boynton’s books to Levi, especially Moo, Baa, La La La. Have you read it? It’s a fun book to read to babies, and popular, too–we received 3 copies of it when Levi was born. How sweet does baby guy look during story time last night? He was so sleepy!

Do you buy souvenirs while on vacation? I try not to bring tchotkes like magnets, t-shirts and the like home from my travels. In general, I find them to be a waste of money, and I don’t want to give up precious refrigerator, closet or drawer space for items I’ll probably never use. Just say “no” to clutter!

But when we were in Miami last weekend, my mom spotted the perfect souvenir for Levi: Good Night Florida, a board board from the Good Night Our World series. Each book highlights the attractions of a particular location, going through a day’s worth of activities. Thanks to a childhood friend, we already own Good Night New Jersey; she wanted to make sure Levi was connected to his mama’s East Coast roots. (She paired the book with Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Bon Jovi–so clever!)

It’s hard to think of books as silly souvenirs, and I love the idea of starting a collection of Good Night books from all the places we visit. These books are not literary works of art, but they are cute and fun to read.

spit up vs. throw up

Since Levi was born, JB has used the words “spit up” and “throw up” interchangeably. I would argue with him that they were different but couldn’t articulate how. Was it simply a matter of quantity? Consistency? How would we know if Levi was experiencing something more serious than a little bit of spit up?

I learned on Friday that the difference between spitting up and throwing up was obvious when Levi reenacted in our kitchen the famous vomiting scene from Poltergeist. The best part? It was orange, courtesy of the sweet potatoes (with butter) that he ate for lunch. It projected with such force that baby guy started coughing and choking on it, and I had to hold him over the sink so he could get it all out. He didn’t cry, but he did seem surprised or shocked by what was happening.

As this appeared to be our first case of baby puke, I immediately called his pediatrician. The nurse in the office instructed me to give him clear Pedialyte — .5 oz every 15-20 minutes — and not nurse or feed him until he went eight hours without vomiting. Levi whined and squirmed for the next couple hours, clearly upset or uncomfortable, and all I could do was try to comfort him by holding him close and letting him fall asleep in my lap.

Having a sick kiddo is the worst, isn’t it?

And just like that, he can sit up.

He suddenly looks older than he did yesterday, too. Who is this big boy and what did he do with my baby guy?

I’m feeling nostalgic, and he’s only 6 months and 10 days old.

Following doctor’s orders, we’re adding butter* to Levi’s food in order to increase his fat and calorie intake. Our baby guy isn’t quite chubby enough for his height, but we’re gonna fix that.

Last night Levi tried sweet potatoes for the first time, eating them with a side of oatmeal cereal. Both were mixed with melted butter. Mmm, mmm good.
