more pregnancy pet peeves

As we get closer to the due date, I’m finding myself feeling more and more frustrated with these sorts of remarks… especially when they come from family members:

“Requesting” that I have the baby on a certain day so that it will be more convenient for them to travel to Omaha. Not possible, sorry.

Calling to ask if I’ve had the baby yet. Um, we will tell you before we tell anybody else, don’t worry!

Asking if we can schedule the bris at a certain time so that it will be more convenient for them to attend. No.

So not only am I overwhelmed with fear about giving birth and caring for a newborn, I now have to worry about other people’s schedules.

What comments annoyed you the most as you endured the final days of your pregnancy?

In honor of my “bouncing baby escape hatch,” which will surely be put to work soon, I thought I’d share with you this British advertisement for Mooncup, a silicone menstrual cup.

marimekko kids

I’m loving the colorful Marimekko Kids collection available at Crate & Barrel. Is it too soon to buy this adorable Marimekko Karkuteilla Kids 3-piece place setting for our little man? I know he won’t be eating off a plate or drinking from a cup any time soon, but I can’t resist those brightly hued boot-wearing zoo animals. Perhaps the set of two Valpuri bibs in eye-catching patterns would be a more practical purchase right now.

My dad flew into Omaha to join us for the holiday weekend, and on July 4th we went to Red Mango for a late afternoon treat. After sitting down with my cup of tart yogurt overflowing with chocolate candy, Fruity Pebbles and mini gummy bears (bottom right), I had the following exchange with my dad:

Me: I think my eyes are bigger than my stomach.

Dad (looking at my baby bump): I don’t think your eyes are bigger than your stomach.

Touché.

38 weeks: a review

{38 weeks pregnant: June 25 – July 1)

This past week it became pretty apparent that my body and my mind were beginning to slow down. Running errands suddenly seemed to require the energy of a marathoner, and I’ve been struggling to maintain my focus on nearly every task at hand (including writing this blog post!). Pair those frustrations with a constant urge to nap and the need to pee every 30 minutes, and you’ve got yourself the reason why I’ve been feeling so cranky lately. Oh yeah, that and I just can’t sleep comfortably though the night anymore…

I also feel as though I’ve gained an extra 10lbs overnight and am most definitely waddling instead of walking. Such an odd sensation!

Perhaps that’s why the Shellac pedicure I had last Sunday was so delicious. My feet and legs, though not swollen, were in desperate need of some pampering. And I’m happy to report that a week later the polish is still chip-free! I’m also happy to report that, as of last Tuesday, my platelet levels were where they needed to be in order for me to have an epidural during delivery. We’ll see if they’ve stayed above 100 at my doctor’s appointment later today.

In other news, my mom arrived in Omaha last Tuesday to assist us with last minute baby preparations and has been a huge help around the house. She cooks and then washes the dishes, does laundry and puts it away, and constantly tidies–all without being asked (and with the help of two cartoon bluebirds on her shoulders, I imagine.) What a lifesaver! Especially since I now assume my digestive pose (laying on my side on the couch) after every meal to ward off indigestion. She will be staying in Omaha for several weeks after our little guy’s arrival to help us as we get used to our new “normal.”

Thank goodness for family!
