Archives for December 2011

december via my iphone camera

December 30, 2011

A look back at our December through the lens of my iPhone camera. Is it just me or did this month really fly by? I hope to be back tomorrow (depending on whether Levi decides to nap) with some thoughts on this past year and what’s to come in 2012.

Oh! And in case you missed it last week, Levi’s monthly photos were included in a round-up of cute ways to document a baby’s growth on Babble.com! We’re so honored to be included among some creative parents.

Sparkly sequin dresses for New Year’s Eve

December 29, 2011

Vince sequin-embellished crepe dress // Oscar de la Renta feather-trimmed silk-mesh dress // Rachel Gilbert Shayla sequined tulle gown

I will most likely be wearing my pajamas, curled up with JB on the couch or in our bed to watch the ball drop this year. Still, a new mom can dream about lavish New Year’s Eve parties and sparkly sequin dresses. I love these three embellished looks from NET-A-PORTER.

What are your big plans for New Year’s Eve…and more importantly, what are you going to wear?!

PS – How to sparkle in glitter and sequins for New Year’s Eve!

got latkes?

December 28, 2011

got_latkes_onesie

Levi didn’t get to taste any latkes this Chanukah, but he did get to enjoy some baby oatmeal in his brand new high chair. The modern Boon Flair was a gift from his great-grandma!

OK, so maybe Levi wasn’t too thrilled about eating oatmeal in his Boon while the rest of us got potato pancakes. Sorry, kiddo. Gotta wait til next year, when you’re 17-months-old (yikes!) to try some of Daddy’s delicious homemade latkes.

Hope you all had a joyous Chanukah!

my wishlist

December 27, 2011

Happy Chrismahanukwanzakah! What presents did you have the most fun giving this year, and what were you the most excited to get?

In addition to some really thoughtful gifts, I received a bit of cash for Chanukah. Rather than deposit it all into my savings account like I usually do, I may put some of my gelt (actual currency, not chocolate coins) towards one or more of these items still on my wishlist:

Michelle Armas calendar // Schosha circle ring (Ruby is Levi’s birthstone) // butter All Hail the Queen nail lacquer // DwellStudio Chelsea Stripe pillow // Hot Tools curling iron

a chanukah miracle

December 23, 2011

Stomach Sleeping in Crib

The miracle of Chanukah is that one day’s worth of oil lit the menorah for eight days. But we may have witnessed a new Chanukah miracle this week: Levi napping in his crib. Perhaps it was because my visiting mother had the magic touch, or because we’ve crossed over some invisible threshold, but Levi was able to fall asleep in his crib on Monday for his morning and afternoon naps. He did it again on Tuesday. And Wednesday. Yesterday he fought his afternoon nap, so our nanny moved him back into his swing, but I’m hoping that was just a fluke!

Also miraculous, we found Levi sleeping contentedly on his stomach. So far he’s only slept in that position during his naps. For some reason, rolling over during the night still wakes him up. Baby steps…

Little Giraffe Blanky

You’ll notice in these photos that Levi is clutching his Little Giraffe blanky. I had serious reservations about letting him fall asleep with it, as I know that the American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend you let your child sleep with soft objects until he is 12 months old. However, Levi is a very tactile kiddo. At night he grabs onto his fleece sleep sack, pulling it up to his chin. Since he doesn’t nap in his sack (so as to differentiate daytime naps from bedtime), we thought that the plushness of the blanky might be soothing–and it was. However, we were vigilant about monitoring Levi while he fell asleep to make sure that he did not cover his face with it, and once he was asleep, we removed the blanky from his crib. I still have some hesitations about it, and I may change my mind about letting him use it. But for now, it works.

When did you start letting your baby sleep with a lovey?

Love getting holiday cards from friends but now Im feeling like a slacker because we havent had professional family photos taken in a couple of years. If I even get around to sending cards this year (doubtful) theyll likely have an iPhone selfie for the imageHappy to have at least one kid willing to stand in front of a random mural and smile for the cameraDiscovered a new-to-me fruit at the @westsidemarket in Cleveland: #Rambutan. They look like the offspring of a strawberry and those spiny brown balls that fall from trees but I have no idea what they taste like. Have you heard of them? Eaten them? Im so curious! Are you still in a food coma from last night or have you moved on to leftovers already?
