I’m not sure I would hang it on my wall, but I love the idea of this poster by Emily McDowell. I’ve decided not to make any New Year’s resolutions this year. Instead, I’ll be coming up with a single overarching theme to carry me through to 2014. Once I figure out what that theme will be (I have a pretty good idea now), I’ll be sure to share it with you.
However, I’d like to take a moment to think about my intentions for 2013. Emily writes that intentions are stronger than resolutions, and a little introspection is good for the soul. Here’s how I would complete my own Declaration of Intention:
This year, I will focus on what I have rather than on what I don’t have. I will let go of unrealistic expectations and embrace uncertainty. I will honor my relationships and love myself in spite of my perceived flaws. I will stand up & share my beliefs with the world!
How would you fill out your Declaration of Intention? Please share your version in the comments below — let’s get introspective together!
PS: Speaking of New Year’s resolutions, I shared the ones that I constantly make but can never keep over on Lifetime Moms.

I’m a list maker so instead of resolutions I make a list of goals and “purposeful” words (I saw a post last year on purposeful words and loved it!). Here’s my lists! 🙂

These are terrific goals, and I also really like the idea of purposeful words. Thanks so much for sharing, Erin!

I love this. I’m definitely going to think about it and publish it. I decided that I’m also going to start blogging again. I miss it — and this, as well as the list of goals and purposeful words is a great inspiration for me! Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you too, Erica! I’ve been inspired by so many resolutions from other people that I’m having a hard time narrowing down my own. I’d better make up my mind soon!

This is a great idea! I love her work (and her answers to the questions, lol). I haven’t felt like making a laundry list of resolutions this year so I may take this route!!!!
PJ
Ugh, every year I make a list of resolutions that I NEVER end up keep! This year I’m definitely going the “intentions” route instead.

I love this! I’ve given up on resolutions but always find a deep desire for self-improvement toward the end of winter. The problem this year is that I’ll have a newborn baby to take care of (in addition to a 2-year-old?!) when it normally happens. Figuring out some intentions in advance will probably go a long way for my wellness!

This year, I will plan better and follow through. I will let go of excuses, and embrace challenges. I will honor my relationships, and love my body – extra weight, stretch marks, and all. I will stand up & share my light with the world!
Happy New Year! And thank you. 🙂
PJ
No, thank you, April! I love your declaration of intention and am so happy you shared it here. Happy 2013!
